Just as they had done in the Superstock race earlier in the week, the Milenco by Padgetts Honda duo of Conor Cummins and Davey Todd fought tooth and nail in Saturday’s Senior TT race, the final podium position eventually going the way of the Manxman.

There was literally nothing to choose between the two riders for much of the race and although Cummins held sway in the early stages, Todd had pegged the deficit back to just half a second at Glen Helen on lap four.
 
Cummins responded, going into the final lap 3.3s ahead, and although Todd set a new personal best lap of 132.046mph, a lap of 131.978mph meant it was Cummins who took the final podium position – his fifth Senior TT podium – by 2.8s.
 
“It was a good little ding-dong,” Cummins said afterwards. “I backed off quite a bit through some yellow flags and maybe lost five seconds or something so just got my head down and went for it. I had to work on the last lap to get a bit of a buffer and I’m happy with third.
 
“I was smashed to bits in hospital in February with a broken collarbone, broken vertebrae and a punctured lung so it was a challenging winter. To come back from that and get two podiums this week and lap at more than 133mph and become the fastest ever Honda rider is pleasing.”
 
For Todd, he had to settle for fourth and just a single rostrum finish from the week but the 132mph+ lap again proved his credentials and proved why he’s been earmarked as a future TT winner.
 
“It’s unfortunate to miss out on a podium but hats off to the top three,” he said. “The bike was incredible and it was handling great whilst I tried really hard on the last lap, probably the first lap I’ve tried as hard as that around here.
 
“I got held up in a couple of spots and I felt like I deserved a podium today but we’ll be back. It was tough over the Mountain and it was like riding blind at times as the wind was buffeting your head around that much so it’s a good job we know where we’re going around here.”
