Isle of Man TT veteran Michael Rutter says the thought of going down Bray Hill at 50 years old on a Superbike is daunting and is devastated by the cancellation of next year's Isle of Man TT.
Rutter has discussed riding in 2022 with the equally-experienced John McGuinness and believes today's news couldn't have come at a worse time.
"It’s devastating news and news I’ve been dreading. I felt confident the TT would go ahead and if anything was at risk it would’ve been the North West 200 so we’ve still got to see what will happen with that one," Rutter told bikesportnews.com
"With regards to the TT, John and I have been talking about it and it couldn’t have come at a worse time in our careers. We’ll both be 50 in 2022 so going down Bray Hill then on a Superbike that’s trying to pull your arms out is a daunting thought.
"But it’s what we know and love so will no doubt be there and will just have to make sure we do as much riding as we can between now and then. It is a hard one to take though and something that’s not a good thing for me as road racing is more important for me and my sponsors.
"A lot of other teams are geared up for the roads too so it’s definitely going to affect a good few people. On the plus side, it means the budget we have in place can be focused more on the short circuits and the Superstock 1000 Championship."
