Three-time Moto2 podium finisher and former European Moto2 runner-up Xavi Vierge will join a two-rider Petronas Sprinta line-up for 2020, in the squad’s third year of contesting the Moto2 World Championship.
Vierge, 22, from Barcelona, was most recently on the podium in Argentina and Australia last season where he finished second and third respectively. Next year will be his fifth full season of Moto2 on the international stage.
“I’m really happy and I can’t wait to get started with the project. Petronas Sprinta Racing are amazing; they’re already fighting for wins in Moto3 and MotoGP and I hope I can add Moto2 to that list next year,” said Vierge.
“The potential is really high, I know a lot of the crew, and I feel like they already believe that we can win together. I’m very thankful for everyone who helped make this opportunity happen and I can’t wait to get started.
“The first target will be to complete really strong winter tests so we can start in Qatar ready to compete for the top positions. The team have the right attitude and I know we can do well.”
This eliminates Vierge from the running to bag the seat alongside Jonathan Rea in Kawasaki’s WorldSBK team, which almost ensures it will remain in the hands of Leon Haslam.
