The Visiontrack Michael Laverty Academy weekend has finally arrived.
With months of planning behind the scenes, it will come to a head this weekend with the selection of the first young hopefuls to take part in the system next year based initially in the British mini bike championship rounds.
The young riders will receive Support and assistance throughout next season at BMB events from Michael and his team with guidance on and off the track to reach their ultimate potential, as well as exciting opportunities attending events and also jumping onboard different bikes to further their experience.
The young Brit hopefuls have been assessed on and off the track all season long at the British mini bike rounds and then a final assessment of riders will be done this weekend at Teesside Autodrome at the final round of the championship.
Riders will also have an opportunity to ride on Friday as an extra days practice has been put in place by the circuit owners, special guests for the weekend already include Chaz Davies, Danny Webb and PBM Visiontrack pilot Christian Iddon, all of which will help Michael and pass on their experience and expertise to all young riders in the BMB paddock.
On top of that as part of the academy process it has also been recognised that there is a young rider already within the championship at the upper end of the age limit for the academy, that on Monday just gone had the opportunity to ride a full sized bike on a full sized circuit for the first time when he attended Donington park with Leon Haslam and the team.
The rider in question is young Rhys Stephenson who has shown amazing potential this year in numerous classes within the BMB, he has been a real treat to watch. There are plans currently being put in place to put a framework together to allow riders to step out from the junior academy within the BMB onto bigger bikes.
After this weekend, riders will be announced to have made the academy in due course and you will be the first to know about it.
