2020 was the year when Jonathan Rea scored an unprecedented sixth world title in the World Superbike Championship, the Kawasaki rider seeing off the considerable threats of, amongst others, Scott Redding and Toprak Razgatlioglu.
Rea took 11 of the 24 race wins with Ducati’s Redding proving to be his stiffest opponent, the 2019 BSB Champion taking five victories on his way to second overall and Rookie of the Year.
A late charge by team-mate Chaz Davies saw him come through the pack to take third ahead of the Yamaha pairing Razgatlioglu and Michael van der Mark.
Both won races during 2020 as did Rea’s team-mate Alex Lowes with Ducati’s Michael Ruben Rinaldi also adding his name to the WSB roll of the honour, his performances during the year convincing the Ducati hierarchy to put him in their factory team in 2021 at the expense of Davies.
Ten Kate’s Loris Baz had another solid season with Honda’s return seeing Alvaro Bautista and Leon Haslam struggle at times but impress at others. Meanwhile, Garret Gerloff proved to be the latest high-class American export with three podiums coming his way.
