The 2020 World Supersport Championship was dominated by one man – Andrea Locatelli.
The Moto 2 refugee joined the reigning champions, Bardahl Bros Yamaha, and never looked back winning a staggering 12 races from the 16 that took place.
Regular series front runners Jules Cluzel and Lucas Mahias were his main challengers, the former’s title assault hit by a broken leg mid-season whilst the latter took two wins towards the season’s end.
Phillip Oettl, another rider joining the series from Moto 2, took a good third overall, aided by four podiums, with Dutchman Steven Odendall also impressing.
Italian Raffaele de Rosa was again well to the fore on the MV Agusta as were the Yamaha pairing of Isaac Vinales and Hannes Soomer, with Spaniard Manuel Gonzalez immediately on the pace as he made the step up from the Supersport 300 Championship.
Danny Webb put together a solid, and consistent season in his first year in the class with fellow brit Kyle Smith taking two strong rostrum finishes when he deputised for the injured Cluzel.
