Walderstown 100: Sheils wins before serious crash forces cancellation

Racing has been abandoned at Walderstown today following a serious crash.

The incident happened during the second race of the meeting, the senior support race.  The rider involved was treated at the circuit by the  medical staff before being air-lifted to hospital in Dublin.

No further details have been issued by the club.

In the opening race, Derek Sheils continued his winning run on his Burrows Engineering/RK Suzuki when he won the open race.

Derek McGee, making his return to racing after being injured at the Isle Of Man TT, set the fastest time in yesterday's qualifying sessions led from the start but a mistake mid-way through the race dropped him well down the field. It gifted Sheils the win, adding to his Skerries and Kells wins in the Superbike class.

Michael Sweeney finished in second with McGee having having fought his way back through the field a credible third.
