WorldSBK Estoril: Davies wins final race as Rea crashes

Chaz Davies stuck two fingers up at the Ducati executives who dispensed with his services for 2021 by taking a runaway win in the final WorldSBK race of the season at Estoril.

Davies took advantage of a small collision between Toprak Razgatlioglu and Jonathan Rea, who went down as a result, to open a gap and cross the line with a three-second advantage.

Razgatlioglu had to give way to the onrushing Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), who finally got to within 55 points of the championship winner with his second place.

A 1-2 finish for Ducati saw Davies and Redding celebrating together on the slowing down lap, for the last time.

Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was fourth and Alvaro Bautista (HRC Honda) a positive fifth in the final race, albeit 15 seconds down on the win.

Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Team GoEleven Ducati), Leon Haslam (HRC Honda) and Xavi Fores (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) finished in a group, from sixth to eighth.

Federico Caricasulo (GRT Yamaha) was ninth after his team-mate Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha) crashed out, and the final race top ten was completed by Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team).

Kawasaki won the Manufacturers’ Championship by one single point from Ducati.

The final championship top three finished Rea, with 360 points, Redding with 305 and Davies 273.
