WorldSBK Jerez: Lowes ruled out of race two

Kawasaki Racing Team’s Alex Lowes has been ruled out of Sunday’s second WorldSBK race at Jerez as the Brit continues to struggle with his fractured right hand.

Post race one checks have deemed Lowes to have ‘functional impairment of his right hand/wrist’, with the 31-year-old siting out of the final 20-lap contest as he prepares for Portimao next weekend.

The number 22 had put on a stellar showing in the Motul Spanish round so far, having fought for pole on Saturday before lining up on the front row, in second. He completed race one in ninth position after running wide to miss colliding with Michael Ruben Rinaldi's Aruba.it Ducai and dropping back from the podium battle.

Lowes sustained the injury during Catalunya’s dramatic day of crashes last weekend, with the Kawasaki rider crashing out amid the first corner chaos of the opening lap of Sunday’s race two. The unfortunate Englishman was collected by his own Ninja ZX-10 before being ridden into by Lachlan Epis in the aftermath.
