WorldSBK Phillip Island: Laverty flown to hospital with pelvic injury

Eugene Laverty has been flown to hospital in Melbourne with a pelvic injury following the red flagged WorldSBK race two.

Laverty’s final race of his 16-year World Championship career came to an abrupt end on Sunday afternoon when the Bonovo BMW rider crashed out at Phillip Island’s turn one with five laps remaining.

After battling for position with Xavi Fores, the Barni Ducati rider was unable to avoid the stricken Northern Irishman. The resulting contact leaving Laverty with pain to his right leg and pelvis. Following checks at the circuit’s medical centre, the 36-year-old was transferred to Melbourne for further assessment.
