2016 Classic TT: Lintin breaks 122mph lap barrier on ZXR750

Ivan Lintin boosted his self-confidence and delighted bike owner Nigel Fitzsimmons when he took his Devitt RC Express Kawasaki ZXR750 round the Mountain Circuit at 122.089mph in qualifying for the Superbike Classic TT tonight.

Lintin was also joint fastest through the Sulby speed trap at 171.19mph, along with Michael Dunlop and Danny Webb on the Team Classic Suzuki XR69s.

"Full credit to Ivan," Fitzsimmons said. "This is his first time on the bike since his crash at Scarborough. He did 118mph on the first night, put 2mph on that last night and another 2mph on it tonight. We're trying to make the rider feel confident that the bike is safe and can get him on the podium."

Dunlop topped the session with a lap at 123.263mph, followed by Michael Rutter on the Winfield Racing Harris Yamaha at 122.337mph.

The 1216cc XR69s have a near-500cc capacity advantage over the ZXR750s, which presents the Kawasaki teams with a special challenge. "Our advantage is with the chassis and handling," Fitzsimmons said. "We have to build enough of an advantage to Ramsey to be able to hold them off over the Mountain."
