2018 Ulster GP: Race weekend stats, facts and pub ammo

The Ulster Grand Prix held world championship status from 1949 until 1971 and moved to its current venue at Dundrod in 1953.

The circuit has remained largely the same except for 1992 when a new chicane was introduced at the start/finish.

The event held a round of the World Formula One Championship from 1978 until 1990.

The meeting has been held every year at Dundrod since 1953 with the exception of 1972 when it was cancelled due to the political troubles in the country.

Mike Hailwood set the first 100mph lap of Dundrod on his MV Agusta at 101.128mph in the 1963 500cc race.

1976 saw Ray McCullough become the first rider to lap Dundrod at more than 110mph during the 350cc race.

Joey Dunlop set the first 120mph lap during the 1984 500cc race.

29 riders have lapped Dundrod at more than 130mph. Guy Martin was the first to break the 130mph barrier in 2007.

Joey Dunlop has the record number of wins at the Ulster Grand Prix with 24 followed by Ian Lougher (18), Phillip McCallen (14), Bruce Anstey (13), Guy Martin (11) and Brian Reid, Robert Dunlop, Ryan Farquhar and Ian Huthcinson (all 9).

Joey Dunlop also has the record number of podiums (44) followed by Lougher (43), Anstey (32), Farquhar (23), Martin (22), Jason Griffiths and William Dunlop (21), Ian Hutchinson (20) and McCallen, Tony Rutter, Robert Dunlop and Michael Dunlop (all 19).

Between 2003 and June 2018, the Ulster Grand Prix was the fastest road race in the world. It lost its title to the Isle of Man TT this year.

The current lap record is held by Dean Harrison at 134.614mph.

The fastest five riders of all time – Harrison, the late Dan Kneen, Bruce Anstey, Peter Hickman and Conor Cummins – all set their personal best laps in the opening Superbike race of 2017. These five, and Ian Hutchinson in 2016, are the only riders to have lapped at more than 134mph.

Peter Hickman is the fastest newcomer in the history of the event having lapped at 131.198mph in 2014.

Hickman and Harrison, in 2012, are the only newcomers to have lapped at more than 130mph.

The fastest female to ever have lapped Dundrod is American Patricia Fernandez who lapped at 119.671mph in 2017.

Hickman’s first ever International road race win came in the second Superbike race of 2015.

Ivan Lintin, Derek McGee and Dan Cooper also had their first International road race wins at the Ulster, in the Supertwins races of 2013, 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Phillip McCallen has the most wins in one day, five, having won the Superbike 1 and 2, Supersport 600cc, and both 250cc races in 1996.

The closest anyone has come to McCallen’s five-timer was Guy Martin, who won four races in a day in 2006, and Ian Hutchinson who achieved the same feat in 2016.

In total, twelve riders have won three or more races in a day – John Williams (1973), Tom Herron (1978), Joey Dunlop (1984, 1985 and 1995), Phillip McCallen (1993, 1994 and 1996), Ian Lougher (2002 and 2005), Darran Lindsay (2002), Bruce Anstey (2004), Guy Martin (2006 and 2013), Ian Hutchinson (2010 and 2016), Michael Dunlop (2011), Lee Johnston (2015) and Peter Hickman (2017).

Lee Johnston currently holds both the Supersport and Superstock lap records.

Ivan Lintin posted the first 120mph+ lap on a Supertwin machine in 2017.

William Dunlop was the first – and only – rider to go through the speedtrap at more than 200mph. He recorded 200.4mph during qualifying in 2017.

Dan Kneen took his first international road race win with victory in the 2014 Superstock race. This was the closest race in the history of the event as he beat Dean Harrison by just 0.001s.

Honda have the most wins at the Ulster Grand Prix (146) followed by Yamaha (84), Suzuki (48), Norton (35), MV Agusta (24) and Kawasaki (21).
