Cadwell BSB: Kennedy holds off Currie to stretch Supersport lead

Jack Kennedy fended off championship rival Ben Currie to take his 10th Dickies British Supersport victory of the season in this afternoon’s Sprint race.

The Integro Yamaha rider led every lap on his way to the win as Currie was denied yet another 25 points by his main title adversary.

But it was Brad Jones who grabbed the holeshot from third on the grid while Gearlink Kawasaki’s Currie was straight through to second from his row two starting spot.

Kennedy, however, out-braked them both into Park corner as he hit the front and led the first lap around the Lincolnshire circuit.

While Jones tried to hang on, the two championship contenders were soon free from the pack, well out of the way of James Rispoli’s engine blow-up at the bottom of Mansfield on lap three.

Pole-man Kennedy set the fastest lap of the race with a 1’29.055, but Currie was able to keep him in sight and not let the Dubliner build more than a half-second gap.

The Gearlink Kawasaki rider had a look through Hall Bends on the final lap after sitting patiently on Kennedy’s tail for nearly the entire race, but he couldn’t make a move and instead had to settle for second just 0.252s off victory.

Nearly 11 seconds back, Jones cruised to a comfortable third place to bag his first-ever British Supersport podium.
