Aintree round three: Race report and results

Behind all the drama and incidents that occurred at the third round on the Merseyside circuit, there was some close racing to thrill the crowds.

Curtis Rothwell (1000 Suzuki) no slouch around Aintree tried to take on Josh Daley (600 Suzuki) in the Superbikes leading after the first lap but was overhauled by Daley . Rothwell kept op the pressure throughout the five laps (reduced due to loss of time) to cross the finish line 0.3 seconds behind Daley.

Sam Walker lost his single point lead with third a second down.

The race was red flagged on the last lap after Rob Hodson rolled off coming out of Club sustaining concussion and a possible fractured collarbone.

There were no Powerbike races after some of the front runners ignored red flags and marshalls instructions on the first lap of the qualifier. The Clerk of the Course decided to punish all and cancelled the race.
Now faced with how grid positions could be arranged for the later points race, the riders would not agree with the organisers, so this race was also abandoned.

Hats off to Rob Varey who took the 600 race to Daley.. Varey stuck to Daley like glue for the four lap race , riding side by side on several occasions. Varey led into Club on the last lap but Daley came out ahead winning by a fraction of a second.

There is always a battle between Greg Lewis and Mike Walker and the Pre- injection was no exception.

Walker led the first lap but Lewis climbing to third on the first bend. Walker was still ahead as they began lap 3 but Lewis put in a fastest lap and overhauled his rival. Walker closed in on Lewis to 0.2 seconds but Lewis seemed to get distracted with a back marker which allowed Walker through to take the win by 0.43 seconds only for Lewis to be docked a 10 second penalty for a flag infringement relegating him to fourth behind Joel Williams and Richard Stubbs.

Christion Peck romped away in the F400 class with a 13 second lead from Mark Purslow and two new to Aintree riders also showed a lot of promise. Jason Taylor still in an orange jacket won outright the GP350, 650 Supertwin and 600 Steel Frame points class and Ben Rae who was the victor in the 500 open class on a 250 Yamaha.
