Aragon WSBK: Cluzel leaves it late to gain pole

An exciting finish to the World Supersport qualifying session at Aragon saw Jules Cluzel grab pole position from pacesetter Kenan Sofuoglu in the dying moments of the session.

Cluzel posted a 1’53.138 with seconds remaining and overtook long-time leader and the man who has been fastest all weekend in Spain, Sofuoglu.

A 1’53.504 for Sofuoglu looked to be giving the Turkish rider his second pole position of the season but late in the day Cluzel stormed around the Aragon circuit to secure his own second pole of 2015.

PJ Jacobsen will start third on the grid after he posted a 1’53.828 and Britain’s Kyle Smith delivered a fast lap towards the end of the session to gain fourth place for tomorrow’s race.

Sitting in fifth and sixth places are Lucas Mahias and Lorenzo Zanetti, with respective laps of 1’54.183 and 1’54.222.

Smith’s 1’53.968 was the best of the British contingent as Gino Rea held seventh with a time of 1’54.288 and Kieran Clarke had another disappointing result back in 22nd place on a 1’57.176.

Ratthapark Wilairot, the championship leader, could only find a best lap of 1’54.517 and he will start the race in eighth, ahead of Marco Faccani and Fabio Menghi.
