WorldSBK technical boss Scott Smart has swiftly responded to Yamah's criticism of the WorldSSP300 balancing rules at Aragon and has introduced some changes to make the R3 and Honda's CBR500 more competitive at Assen.

The rules were drawn up at the beginning of the year when Kawasaki's Ninja 400 had never turned a wheel, so a best guess was used. Aragon was the first place the bikes had been together on track and it was obvious the R3 and CBR had been left wanting.

So for this weekend, the Honda's minimum weight is now 153kg and its rev limit is 10,200 while the R3 is now allowed to rev to 13,100rpm. The Yamaha is also allowed to reduce its airbox air filter in size, the air funnel may be shortened and the airbox intake tube can be removed.

Honda competitors may also shorten their air funnel and remove the airbox intake tube.

Strangely, Yamaha weren't banging on Smart's door when their bikes mopped up in WorldSSP at Aragon, saying they had too much of an advantage...
