Brands BSB: Injured Linfoot vows to come back stronger

Honda Racing’s Dan Linfoot has vowed to come back even stronger after breaking his wrist in an MCE British Superbike free practice crash this morning. He has been ruled out of action for the entire race weekend at Brands Hatch, and the next round at Oulton Park too.

The Northerner fell c at Clark Curve and knew instantly that he had broken his wrist. But after attending the Kings College Hospital this afternoon the medical staff there confirmed his suspicions and he will undergo an operation on Sunday or Monday.

Linfoot has overcome serious injury before, and knows he is mentally strong enough to come back fighting and to be at the sharp end once again. Two years ago at Brands he crashed and broke his leg at the start of the season, but he returned from injury to finish the BSB year - and the rider knows he can do that again, and has set a return at Snetterton as his next target.

“I feel OK; I am a bit peeved off that this has happened so early in the year after such a good round one at Donington. I am not in a hell of a lot of pain, but the damage is a clean snap- in the forearm - where it joins with the wrist,” said Linfoot, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.

“The doctors have manipulated it back in place now and I am waiting for an operation to pin it in place which should hopefully be this weekend on Sunday. Then it is the usual rehab, the hyperbaric chamber and physio. So nine weeks today is the first practice at Snetterton in round four which I should be good for and should be fit enough to ride the bike.

“I know from the first moment that I stopped tumbling in the gravel that there was no feeling there and I couldn’t wiggle my fingers, so from the moment that I stopped I supported my wrist and said to the medics, ‘Quick let’s do something with my hand – it’s broken’.”

“Just want to say a big thanks to the medics, and you don’t realise how good the medics are here until you need them, and sorry for Honda, the fans and the sponsors, but you will see Dan Linfoot back by round four and fighting strong.

“I feel mentally stronger now - than my last crash here two years ago. But this is a downer especially coming off a strong round one, but I know what I can do and I know I have recovered from injury at this point of the season before. I know you will see me back at the sharp end sooner rather than later.”
