Brands BSB: Mackenzie clinches tight second Supersport win

WD40 Kawasaki’s Tarran Mackenzie secured a career first Dickies British Supersport double win, but was once again forced to work hard for it by FAB-Racing’s Bradley Ray.

From the outside of the front row, EHA Racing’s David Allingham took the holeshot and lead a Supersport race for the first time. His time at the front wasn’t long though, with Acumen Triumph’s Luke Jones battling his way past to the front.

Jones was quickly put under some serious pressure by Brad Ray, still gunning for his first Supersport win, and the pressure eventually forced Jones into giving Ray the opportunity at leading the race.

The leading two were then joined by Mackenzie and Came BPT Yamaha’s James Westmoreland and the leading quartet detached themselves from the early leader, Allingham.

At half race distance, four became three as Jones tucked the front at Surtees whilst trying to avoid the rear wheel of Mackenzie.

As the trio edged towards the closing stages, Westmoreland was visibly pushing hard and he eventually made a mistake, allowing Ray and Mackenzie to break clear.

He did manage to get back onto the rear wheel of the leading two on the last lap but it was too little, too late. Mackenzie held the lead on the last lap but in a complete re-run of the first race, Ray dived under the inside at Stirlings to take the lead with one corner left.

However, Ray ran wide at the following Clearways and once again was out dragged to the chequered flag for the win, but he also lost out to Westmoreland for second too.

Mackenzie’s second win today sees him extend his championship lead to now 31 points over Westmoreland, who sits on pole position for tomorrow’s feature race.

Northern Irishman Allingham came across the line in fourth place, a second clear of Joe Francis. In a great day for the EHA Racing squad, Allingham’s teammate Ross Twyman took sixth place ahead of Ben Currie.

Rounding out the top ten were a subdued Andy Reid, Sam Wilford and Joe Collier.
