Brands BSB: Showdown rider Dixon ‘sore’ but unscathed after crash

RAF Reserves Kawasaki’s Jake Dixon is feeling a bit ‘sore’ after his fast MCE British Superbike free practice crash at Brands Hatch, but fortunately for the youngster he has not broken any bones and came away from incident intact. Now he is ready for qualifying and race one on Saturday.

The showdown rider can mathematically still win the championship and he is feeling relaxed ahead of the triple-header at his local circuit. The Dover native admitted that the crash at Hawthorn Bend was ‘not ideal’ and now his team have to work hard overnight to put the ZX-10RR back together.

Before the fall, Dixon was second fastest and showed that he had the pace on the softer compound Pirelli tyres. The red flags then came out in FP2 when he tumbled into the gravel. But the youngest ever showdown rider is not feeling the pressure and knows his team will do a good rebuilding his Kawasaki.

“I am sore to say the least my neck and back are a bit sore but apart from that it wasn’t ideal to crash but before the crash we were quite strong,” said Dixon, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.

“Then everyone put in a new tyre and then we rolled out with our new tyre and we just got a bit caught out and I had a better exit coming onto the back straight and you have to be careful that you don’t bottom out, and I lost the front and it was quite a big crash but the bike is in a bit of a mess but the boys have got all night to rebuild it and I know they will do a good job.

“I was running soft tyres in the first bit and I put the new softs in to see what we could do for a lap time and unfortunately went down and not ideal. I feel good and everyone is relaxed in the team and we are taking it as it comes.”
