Brands BSB: Strongest-ever start for dominant Mossey

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey came away from the MCE British Superbike round at his local Brands Hatch Indy circuit with maximum points and is second in the overall championship standings.

In both races he was able to maintain a quick pace and after nearly three years of waiting was able to clinch his maiden victory, followed by another win a few hours later.

Mossey was chased hard by his team-mate Leon Haslam and Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon, but in the first race edged ahead to cross the finishing line with a 3.5 second advantage.

The biggest change from the opening round is that his team have put a new engine into the ZX-10RR and that has given Mossey more power and he is only five points adrift from Haslam in the BSB table. Now he has the momentum to be strong going into the next round at Oulton Park.

“I was over the moon with the first one, and I was happy to come away with a top five in race two to keep racking up the points - but for two to come at once I am absolutely over the moon,” said Mossey at the track.

“I cant thank the team enough. We have done our homework over the race weekend with the race runs. Lets hope we can build on this and I have never had a such a strong start to a season and that includes my Supersport career.

After race one Mossey added: “James set a really big pace at the start. I was pushing hard and I was a bit lost on my own for my first couple of laps as I didn’t want to be leading but I tired to maintain the mid 45’s and I was quite surprised to lead by three and a half seconds as I didn’t think we had that much pace during the race.

“But I think Leon and Christian were beating each other up which gave us the upper hand. To win my first race like that at my local circuit - I am over the moon and full credit to the team.”
