Brands BSB: ‘Two second places is not two wins’ – Byrne

PBM Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne had a one hundred percent podium  record during this MCE British Superbike race weekend at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, but it was two second place finishes that he came away with, rather than the top step of the podium that he was fighting for.

Local lad, Byrne is not completely happy as two race wins were his aim, but his team have worked hard this weekend on his ZX-10R, and he was able to get the better of title rivals Buildbase BMW’s Ryuichi Kiyonari and ultimately Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes to bag some podium credits. But it is not all bad for the four-time champ as he keeps his lead in the overall championship standings.

“Two second places is not two wins, so obviously I can’t leave here one hundred percent happy. But you can’t come here and expect to win every single race. The bike is quite a lot different than last year, and I crashed in Spain before I had chance to try anything new on the bike,” said Byrne, at the circuit.

“My team have worked hard to improve the feeling with the bike which is good. In the second race I tried to dig but James got away, and in the last couple, of laps ‘I thought I could do this’ – but in the end it was a tough weekend but the results, two second place finishes against these guys is good.”
