Brands BSB: Wet win for Todd as Weaving takes Stock 600 crown

Davey Todd took the victory in a Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship thriller ahead of Lewis Rollo and Carl Phillips but the title went to Jordan Weaving who brought his NMT No Limits Kawasaki home in eighth place in an incident packed race, decided over six laps after earlier red flags.

Todd was quickly ahead with Phillips in hot pursuit ahead of Rollo and Weaving but the Morello Racing Kawasaki rider was pulling a bit of a gap over the first couple of laps, though Rollo was soon making life difficult. He powered in the fastest lap of the front-runners on the third lap to ease into second place ahead of Phillips.

Todd was running three quarters of a second clear at the front from Rollo with Phillips a further two seconds back while Bradley Jones moved fourth at the expense of Weaving was riding cautiously in the wet going, anxious to preserve his title ambitions.

But, just as Todd began his sixth lap, the red flags came out after a tangle between Kurt Wigley and Bradley Perie left a pool of oil on the track, and needing soaking up, a job quickly sorted ahead of the re-start over six laps which was greeted by a flash of sunshine, though still on a damp track.

Todd was on pole and quickly away with Rollo tucked in behind from Jones who was quickly on the attack while Weaving held on amid a scary moment as the rear of his bike swerved out on line.  Todd led into the second lap by 1.532secs from Rollo, with Jones third from Phillips, Sam Thompson and Weaving.

Phillips was closing down Rollo, little more than a quarter of a second between them after two laps, while Weaving was eased back into seventh place by Aaron Clarke. Todd was pulling further clear at the front while Phillips held on as his bike twitched out of line as he tried to close further on Rollo.

Despite that concern Rollo was making deep inroads into the lead of Todd, slashing the advantage of the Saltburn rider to under a second at two thirds distance and then next time around moving within 0.057secs.

No suprise that Rollo nosed ahead at Paddock Hill but Todd hit back at Hawthorn and he held firm to take the victory by 0.543secs from the young Scot who held on as his bike swerved out of line under power in a last gasp effort to snatch the verdict.

Phillips took third from Jones, Clarke, Thompson, Gilbert and Weaving who had done enough to secure the crown.
