Brookes to race at Assen IDM round

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes will contest the IDM race at Assen next month as a stand in rider for Max Neukirchner who is injured.

Brookes, who is leading the development of the new R1 with the Milwaukee team, was thought to be partnered by Motoamerica title challenger Cameron Beaubier in the MGM Yamaha team over the weekend of August 9 but it clashes with the Indianapolis round of the American championship.

“The MGM team have two riders out injured and Yamaha want to keep the momentum going with the current R1 and asked us to release Josh,” said Brookes’ team boss Shaun Muir, speaking to bikesportnews.com at Brands Hatch.

“We have said yes because it will be good preparation for us before the Assen round of the Showdown. Josh will ride their bike but have the YME development team there along with one of Josh’s own guys from here.”

Neukirchner broke his hip in a crash at the Nurburgring in June while team-mate Damian Cudlin could be facing retirement after tearing his rotator cuff - the injury which ended Ben Spies’ career - in a crash at the Hungaroring two weeks ago.
