BSB bosses propose changes to British Supersport rules

British Superbikes chiefs have put forward a draft proposal to change the British Supersport regulations for 2016 in order to further reduce costs and ensure a heathly future for the class.

The proposal will see regulations for the whole class brought closer to the current Evo rules but there will be provision for minor engine tuning with changes to the duration of cam timing allowed in order to make a clear differentiation to the Superstock 600 class.

“The new regulations are designed to reduce costs of participation and ensure a healthy future for the middleweight class, highly regarded for its close competition and no holds barred racing.  In 2013 MSVR announced the Supersport EVO category to bridge the gap between the development Superstock 600 class and Supersport as it was becoming clear the highest level was become difficult for teams to operate at, and in 2014 and 2015 the grids have swelled with new teams and riders, previously excluded purely on the grounds of cost,” said series director Stuart Higgs.

“At both World and British Championship level it has been clear that budgets are being stretched with high costs attributed to tuning and engine refreshes.  Engaging with technical colleagues in other championships and in consultation with teams, MSVR has crafted a new single technical platform for the 2016 British Supersport Championship taking the EVO level as the base and opening up certain restricted areas to ensure a place remains for mechanical tuning.”
