Buchan tops unofficial Cartagena test times

BeWiser Kawasaki’s Danny Buchan was the quickest rider (according to the unofficial media centre timing) after four Pro-Test sessions at a sunny, but cold Cartagena circuit. The tall youngster set a 1’34.67, and he aims to be even quicker tomorrow.

The reigning Pirelli National Superstock 1000 champ is no stranger to the Spanish track, but he was able to out-pace the likes of Moto Rapido Ducati’s Jakub Smrz and JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s James Ellison. Buchan went 0.3 seconds quicker than former World Superbike rider, Smrz and over half a second faster than Ellison who lapped a 1’35.10.

There were no major incidents to report during the four outings and for most teams, today was the first time that the riders were able to put down some serious lap times. Buchan and his team, including team boss Tommy Hill have been working hard on suspension and gears and after day two it appears that all their hard work paid off.

PBM’s Stuart Easton was also setting consistency quick lap times in the 1’35’s and ended the afternoon with a 1’35.21, followed closely by Tyco BMW’s new boy Tommy Bridewell. The Devizes man was two tenths slower than the Scot, but was 0.4 seconds quicker than his new team-mate, returning MCE British Superbike rider, Michael Laverty.

The Wales-based Northern Irishman is enjoying getting the feel for his new bike, and safely made his way inside the top ten after a 1’35.84, at the flag. Halsall Suzuki’s Josh Waters only touched down on European soil two days ago, and is slowly getting his confidence back on the GSX-R. He just missed out on a time within the 1’35’s and had to settle for his best time of the day - a 1’36.19.

Unofficial times:

Danny Buchan – 1’34.67

Jakub Smrz – 1’34.90

James Ellison – 1’35.10

Stuart Easton – 1’35.21

Tommy Bridewell – 1’35.44

Michael Laverty – 1’35.84

Josh Waters – 1’36.19
