Cadwell BSB: Gaining more podium points the aim for Byrne

Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne finished the second MCE British Superbike practice session at Cadwell Park, P1 on the timesheets and now his aim is to clinch more podium points than any other rider during the double-header on Sunday.

Byrne set a 1’26.516 which was the fastest BSB time so far this race weekend, but he did not leave the track this evening in a really positive frame of mind. Just over a month ago Byrne undertook a successful test at the Lincolnshire circuit, but today he did not have the same feeling with the Panigale.

He admitted that he was struggling with the balance of the Ducati and his team have been working hard to get more feeling from the front of the bike too. His crew chief Giovanni Crupi has a plan which they will work on this evening, in order to be ready for qualifying on Saturday.

“Honestly it has not gone that well at all. We had a pretty difficult first session and it kind of continued into the second session. We played about with the balance of the bike and tried to get a bit more feel from the front of the bike and a better balance between the front and the rear of the bike,” said Byrne at the track.

“We only used one tyre this morning, which was good which meant we had two this afternoon. We put a new one in the afternoon and I just feel we are being held back a little bit. It was a good session and we ended up P1 and we had a run of decent times and it is what it is as its Friday at Cadwell Park and it is all about Sunday.

“I was fast here at a test a month ago. Slightly faster than I went today even and I felt good on the bike a month ago and I feel dreadful on the bike here today. We have some work to do to make ourselves better for
Sunday.

“We are struggling like a said with a little bit of balance with the bike. Cadwell is a great event and the track itself is pretty narrow and it makes things interesting in the race. The important thing is that there are only two rounds left to gain podium points and my aim has to be to try and take more of those podium points than anyone else.”
