Cadwell BSB: Tyre life crucial for poleman Haslam

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam may have been away from the Cadwell Park circuit for eight years, but it was like he had never left after making history as the first ever rider to set a sub 1’26 minute lap.

A 1’25.923 meant that the Derby-based racer ended up on pole during qualifying, and now holds both the outright and circuit lap records, after his record-breaking afternoon.

But one thing that Haslam is keen to do during the races tomorrow is to save the tyre. Haslam set his fastest ever lap on a SC2 front and SC0 rear  and his team have been working hard all weekend to make the tyres last.

The former World Superbike star did not have the start to the weekend that he wanted after he crashed during free practice at the top of the mountain, but he had a near perfect qualifying and is feeling good for the Bank Holiday races.

“We did not start the weekend as we planned we had a bit of a get off over the mountain and the JG Speedfit guys have worked really well and put together a really good package and looking forward to the race tomorrow,” said Haslam at the track.

“It is all about saving the tyre but we have worked hard all weekend and we suffered a bit in the cooler conditions with a bit less track time, but I am feeling pretty good and the Kawasaki is working good.”
