Cadwell BSB: Wins cement Brookes as series leader

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes was unstoppable and rode two faultless races to do the double at Cadwell Park. He extends his lead in the overall MCE British Superbike Championship standings, and understandably the Bringelly man is a very happy rider.

He now has a 39 point advantage over title rival, PBM Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne, who failed to bag those all important podium credits this afternoon. But Brookes was on fire and had no trouble taking maximum points off RAF Reserves BMW’s Peter Hickman at the Lincolnshire track.

It is the sixth consecutive race win for Brookes who did the double at Brands Hatch and Thruxton, to clinch the triple-double. The last rider who had six victories on the bounce was Leon Camier, back in 2009, and even though the circuit lap record eluded Brookes he came away with his 26th BSB career race win.

“I am sorry I just went out the front and led the whole race, but I just wanted to get out there and not let up and keep going,” said Brookes.

“It is easy to make mistakes and lose concentration when you are not in a battle. In a battle you are fighting for every corner so you don’t lose concentration, so I wanted to be smooth and calculated so I kept it pinned and rode it to the flag.

“I am really pleased for the Milwaukee Yamaha team and everything is all working really well now so we are ready for Oulton Park.”
