Dixon set for Moto2 debut at Silverstone MotoGP

MCE British Superbike star Jake Dixon is set for a Moto2 wildcard with the Dynavolt Intact team at the Silverstone MotoGP round.

The youngster, who regularly rides for Lee Hardy’s RAF Reserves Kawasaki team, will stand-in for injured Marcel Schrotter on the Suter and take the Brit tally to two as he rides alongside Tarran Mackenzie in the class.

“I’m very excited about this big opportunity. A big thank you to Dynavolt Intact GP to give me the chance to ride at Silverstone to my home Grand Prix, which is something very special. Also a big thank you to Lee Hardy, my RAF Regulars and Reserves team boss, to allow me to take part, which is amazing. It will be an experience, which is for sure great after I've been watching the MotoGP for many years on TV,” said Dixon.

“I know Silverstone very well. Obviously we have a race there in the British Superbike Championship. I rode there about five or six times and I've won there as well in other classes.

“Sure the Moto2 will be a bit different to the Superbike, but also I think that many things will be quite similar. The engine will be slower and the chassis on the Superbike has been made stiffer, so this is maybe similar to what a Moto2 bike will feel like. It will be an experience as I said and I'm looking forward to the challenge.”

Hardy added: “Jake has really shown what he is capable of in the British Championship this season and it is a testament to our team and all of our sponsors involved that he has been head hunted for this Moto2 appearance.

“As a private team we are proud that we have put a package underneath Jake this year that has allowed him to showcase his ability and prove to others he has what it takes to go to the top.

“Jake has the full support of the team, the Royal Air Force, Briggs Equipment, Mother Hubbard’s and everyone else involved ahead of the event and we will be there to support him as we would at any other race meeting.

“Jake is still fully focused on fighting for a place in the Showdown and that continues this weekend at Cadwell Park and then of course the Title Fighter deciding round at Silverstone next month.”

Danny Kent rode for the squad at the Red Bull Ring but injured his neck when he was nerfed off by Alex Marquez and didn’t race.

It isn’t yet clear why Kent has been replaced by Dixon as the replacement rider.
