Donington WSBK: Rea expecting raceday scrap with Sykes

Kawasaki’s Jonathan Rea is expecting a raceday scrap with team-mate Tom Sykes in both of tomorrow’s Donington Park World Superbike encounters after the pair qualified on the front row today.

The Castletown resident believes there is still work to be done in order to try and match the fast and consistent race pace Sykes has demonstrated in free practice and a last minute change of rear shock in Superpole confirmed some settings for the Irishman.

“I made a couple of small mistakes but I couldn’t have done any better. I was a bit surprised to be second as we changed the rear shock for Superpole but after the race tyre run we saw it didn’t really work, I had a lot of chatter, so they changed it back and there was a big difference,” said Rea, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“That sets us up well for tomorrow. We are still lacking a little bit but the beauty is we get another crack in warm-up but right now I am happy to be on the front row. My team-mate is so strong here, over one lap and over race distance, so to think about winning the race we still have work to do to catch him.”
