Britain’s Leon Camier took a fourth place in the opening World Superbike race at Donington Park today but believes now the hard work will begin to take his MV Agusta to the next development level.
Camier battled with former MotoGP champion Nicky Hayden to claim his equal-best race finish of the year and is a happy man as it brings him to eighth in the championship standings.
It’s mega. We were hoping for a top six and thought here could be really good again but you never know what everyone else is brining,” Camier told bikesportnews.com at the track.
“We managed to get it done, which is good. I feel there is a fraction more to come from the chassis but at the same time, it is where it is. Maybe we can get a tenth or two per lap but there’s not a lot more to be had.
“There are a few places where I can see we are losing. This morning, I was following Giugliano and he was pulling masses out of me on the strsight. I was still wheelying, so it wasn’t grip or a power thing. He would pull and then keep pulling, so they are running a longer chassis to make use of that but still getting it to turn.
“I think at this point, the bike is at its limit. We will need to start trying different chassis and strenthening areas to get it a little more precise, so now the hard part starts. We knew as soon as we got this chassis and tank we could be at this level if someone had a bad day but to take the next step is going to take some time.”
