Jerez Moto2 test: Lowes ends second on combined times

Britain’s Sam Lowes ended the Jerez Moto2 test in second place overall, trailing Luca Marini by a quarter of a second on the combined timesheet.

Rain on day three meant yesterday’s times were the benchmark and Lowes put in a 1’41.792 compared to Marini’s 1’41.524. Alex Marquez was third, Remy Gardner fourth and Lorenzo Baldassarri fifth.

“It’s been a real positive test because we could work on many things. The first, of course, was to get used to the new engine and the new bike,” said Lowes.

“I immediately felt good with all the team and the new engine is very nice, the character is completely different from the Honda so you have to ride the bike in different way, but we are working on it. We have a precise plan on what to work on for the next test to improve the bike.

“Second overall and with good feelings. It was a very positive test and a big thumb up for the engine, so is going to be an interesting season with nice races.”

Jake Dixon proved he had pace in the wet, topping the sopping opening session today and finishing 28th overall, 2.6s in arrears.
