Jerez MotoGP test: Marquez debuts new triple-wing on way to fastest time

Marc Marquez debuted a new triple-wing arrangement on the Repsol Honda in today’s Jerez MotoGP test on his way to setting the quickest time of the day but he was chased hard by Jorge Lorenzo, himself back-to-backing the 2015 and 2016 M1s with the rear fuel tank.

Dani Pedrosa also had some strakes, as people from the 1870s like to call them, bolted on to his version of the RC213V but it was nothing like as radical as Marquez’ setup. The Honda duo also had a new swingarm to evaluate while going through the three new front tyres provided by Michelin.

“We’re satisfied after today because we tested out a lot of different things. We not only tried some new winglets and a new swingarm, but we also did a lot of laps to try to understand or rule out different setups,|” said Marquez.

“The most striking thing for people was our testing three different winglets. The aerodynamic side of things had a lot of untapped potential; now that this has been opened up, we can work a lot on this aspect because there seems to be no limit to what you can do with it. We also tested three different front tyres today, but the one that we used this weekend was working well too.”
