Jerez WorldSBK test will provide a marker for BMW, says Muir

BMW WorldSBK team boss Shaun Muir says the Jerez test will provide a marker for his squad when they finally go up against the competition tomorrow.

Both Tom Sykes and Markus Reiterberger will get new engines, swingarms and links to try in Spain as well as some different electronic strategies when they take to the track with the rest of the Superbike pack.

“We’ve got the bikes at another level since Andalucia so we are in a good position. The first test was a shakedown of the full Superbike chassis but we now have a different engine spec, we have a different clutch, a handmade factory swingarm and linkages,” said Muir, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the track.

“We have also got some electronic strategy work to do here, it’s a nice and sensible step forward. The bikes are familiar, it will be a step forward from Andalucia.

“I think the boys have got some apprehensions for different reasons. Markus I think wants to prove his place in the championship and Tom has a target on his back after moving teams.

“But it is a very relaxed atmosphere. We have got a lot of work to do and we don’t expect to be at the top of the timesheets. We need a marker, a line in the sand to see where we are in comparison to the competition. We’re all excited to see where that line is.”
