Jerez WSBK test: Savadori impresses with day-two pace

Milwaukee Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori ended the two-day Jerez WorldSBK test in second place overall and just a tenth slower than fastest man - and reigning champion - Jonathan Rea.

The Italian spent all of last year aboard the RSV4 in its Ioda Racing colours and has carried that experience over to the newer RSV4RF. It is thought that Savadori set his fastest lap using a new spec of qualifying tyre brought by Pirelli that lasts longer than the usual one lap.

We got lots of laps in which was really important. We tried a few different things with the setup and the tyres, and I was able to set a fast time and finish second,” he said.

“The track was cold during the day so it didn't always work so well with the tyres, but the bike ran well and we learnt a lot. We still have a lot of work to do to reach the top of the field, but the team is working well and for me it is great to do some real testing.

“I’m hoping to learn a lot more at Portimao, and I will work hard to make some good progress before we start the season at Phillip Island."
