Milwaukee Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty put in two solid and fast sessions on the opening day of WorldSBK practice at Laguna Seca and is building on a setup step forward he and the team made at Misano.
The Monaco-based Irishman finished Friday in fourth place on the combined sheets and sauit was was pleased to be able to ride at the same pace as the likes of Jonathan Rea and Chaz Davies from the outset.
“Today has only been positive. To be able to go with Jonathan from the first lap and ride with him, it’s the first time we have been able to do that this year so I can say we are on the pace but there is still a question mark over race distance,” said Laverty, speaking at the track.
“I’ve known for the past few rounds that this pace was possible. Since Donington, I have felt we have had a bike I can get in the mix with but we haven’t found the right balance but after Misano, we learned a lot and from the first lap it has worked.”
