Lowes to get new chassis for Sachsenring Moto2

Britain’s Sam Lowes is expecting a chassis upgrade for his Speed Up Moto2 machine in order to allow more flex and to chase the turn-in he needs to stay with championship leaders Johann Zarco and Tito Rabat.

Lowes says that as little as a tenth a lap is required in race trim to put on a shot at his second victory of the season and getting the grip from the rear by having a fraction less lean angle is the way forward.

“The team are pushing hard for a new chassis, maybe for the Sachsenring and that would be good. if not, then for Indy. It will be a little less stiff. If I’d had one more tenth a lap for the last few races then I would have been there,” said Lowes, speaking at Assen.

“We are missing a little bit in turning, which means I have more angle than the other guys as I haven’t turned as well. The grip is good when I can turn as well as them and pick the bike up. It wants to go straight.

“Last year, Sachsenring was a disaster for us but the aluminium swingarm is a massive step forward from the carbon. You spend a lot of time driving on the side of the tyre and normally Dunlop bring the hard tyre which is bad for us, but we will see.”
