Maria Herrera will become the first woman to take up a full-time ride in WorldSSP this season when she steps up with the BCD Yamaha MS Racing team.
Herrera took part in the 2018 SP300 series with the squad but now wants to step up in class. The team have secured the help of Yamaha Spain and Yamaha Europe to make it so.
"Impossible to start 2019 in a better way. We will take one more step and we will do the Supersport World Championship with Maria Herrera," said a team statement.
"With this, she becomes the first woman to participate in this category permanently. We want to thank Dorna and Yamaha Racing, and Yamaha Spain who help us to take this project forward, with the objective of upgrading a promising youngster by continuing their participation last year in the Supersport 300 World Championship with us."
