MotoGP Jerez test: Yamaha's Zarco tops the timesheets

Monster Yamaha's Johann Zarco finished the one-day Jerez MotoGP test at the top of the timesheets, ending with a two-tenth advantage over Britain's Cal Crutchlow with fellow Honda man Dani Pedrosa in third place.

The Frenchman set a 1'37.730 to lead for most of the afternoon after taking charge at 2pm with a 1'37.937. Crutchlow was always just behind and stuck in a 1'37.947 as conditions began to cool and track temperatures more manageable.

Pedrosa trailed the LCR Honda rider by just 0.033s after a putting in 68 laps with his still-injured wrist, testing a new aero package and both carbon and aluminium swingarms alongside team-mate Marc Marquez, who finished two places further back.

Maverick Vinales, who struggled more than most for grip during race weekend, didn't go out until the hottest part of the day to try and find a cure for his woes and managed a 1'38.139 right at the crack of lunchtime but was unable to improve.

Rookie Franky Morbidelli stuck in a 1'38.288 for sixth place with Tito Rabat and Taka Nakagami next along. Jack Miller and a struggling Valentino Rossi completed the top ten.
