Moto3 series leader Joan Mir extended his points advantage to a massive 34 in today’s race at Le Mans after a crash from Romano Fenati gave the Leopard Racing rider a 2.6s advantage over the pack with nine laps to run which he extended to take victory.
Mir had been in the medical centre after the race was stopped initially due to a massive oil spill but came back to take his place on the re-started grid. He made his way to second behind Fenati in fairly short order, aided by a crash from title rival Jorge Martin.
The Spaniard only then had to stay up right at a decent pace to take the victory, which he did by some 4.2s over Aron Canet with Fabio Di Giannantonio in third place. Youngster Marcos Ramirez was the best of the KTMs in fourth as team-mate Darryn Binder crashed out of second on the last lap.
Juanfran Guevara bagged fifth with Enea Bastiannini in sixth place. Danny Kent’s return to the class finished in tenth place and only six seconds off the win with John McPhee in 12th place.
