MotoGP Mugello: ‘Everything went wrong’- Marquez

Reigning MotoGP World Champion will start tomorrow’s Mugello MotoGP race from 13th on the grid after mistakes and a massive lack of rear grip saw him fail to make it into the second qualifying session.

Marquez has been struggling on the brakes and with an overly-aggressive engine, and says that he is using last year’s bike but he isn’t able to switch back to last year’s motors which we easier to use.

The Repsol Honda man didn’t make it into the top ten in free practice three and was then bounced out of qualifying two by a fast lap from Yonny Hernandez when his plan to only use one tyre failed.

“Today, everything went wrong. We did a mistake in FP3, we didn’t put a new tyre, I used the one from yesterday until the end because we were thinking too much about the electronics and for that we need the old tyre,” said Marquez, speaking at the track.

“In qualifying one, I had the confidence for push only on one tyre but in that exit we had another problem. We must start well and push from the beginning.

“On the qualifying, the rear was sliding a lot, we don’t know why but this was my feeling. I stop to put a new tyre but we didn’t have time. We try to save two tyres for qualifying two but I couldn’t make enough speed for qualifying two.

“I was pushing but I couldn’t find the rear grip. During the weekend I have it and it is good but in that exit, I couldn’t find it. We are trying to find a solution.

“We cannot use the 2014 engine. We are using the 2014 bike with some small differences but here, during the practice I felt good. We will race the medium tyre.”
