Andrea Iannone topped MotoGP FP4 as he continued his exceptionally strong home weekend in Mugello.

In the practice session designed to help teams find a base set up for tomorrows race, Iannone headed second placed Jorge Lorenzo by just 0.084 seconds with a 1’47.548.

Iannone who were experimenting by running carbon bracing on frames did his fastest lap on a soft rear tyre as he searched for the perfect setup for tomorrows home race.

Jorge Lorenzo was a tenth ahead of his Ducati teammate with the Ducati duo spending a lot of the session running a soft rear tyre to see how it will stand up in the extremely warm track temperatures.

Marc Marquez was fourth fastest as the Repsol Honda duo took the unconventional approach to use FP4 to experiment with a new Carbon swing arm. Marquez ended the session just under two tenths of a second behind Iannone but Dani Pedrosa’s new swing arm took a battering as the Spaniard lost the front end of his RC213V.

The factory Yamaha duo of Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi were fifth and sixth respectively. The Spaniard appears to have race pace although he will have to negotiate the tricky Q1 session before he can aim for a competitive grid position.

Alex Rins was seventh fastest, only three tenths off of his team-mates time, but the Ecstar Suzuki rider was one another crasher, walking away from the crash unharmed. Jack Miller was eighth on his satellite Ducati ahead of Johann Zarco who was another crasher, losing the front end of his M1 going into the fast right-handed Casanova corner. Danilo Petrucci and his Pramac Desmosedici rounded out the top ten.

Franco Morbidelli was top rookie in eleventh ahead of Aleix Espargaro, Tito Rabat, Alvaro Bautista and Taka Nakagami who rounded out the top fifteen, with the Japanese rookie only 0.850 off the top.

Cal Crutchlow was the top Brit in 17th place ahead of Scott Redding and Bradley Smith who were 20th and 21st respectively.
