MotoGP Qatar: Bosses hatching daytime race contingency plan

According to sources inside MotoGP’s corridors of power, Sunday’s races could be run in the daytime should rain or the threat of rain be too much of a risk to compete at night.

Currently, there is some argument over whether it is safe to race in wet conditions under floodlights as there has only been a cursory examination of the amount of glare - one man riding in a straight line on a purposely-dampened track - that is created.

None of the series’ top men are convinced it is a good idea so plans are apparently being hatched to race on Sunday afternoon using the wets that Michelin have taken to Losail. This will pacify TV schedulers as the Australian F1 GP will have finished and won’t incur any penalties from airlines for changing all the freight booked out of the country on Monday.

And it is probably safer for the riders too.
