MotoGP Silverstone: Crash ends title fight for Marquez

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez has admitted that he is now out of the fight for the MotoGP title, after crashing during the wet race at Silverstone whilst dicing for the win alongside rival, Valentino Rossi.

The Movistar Yamaha rider eventually took the win, and extends his lead in the series, but with another zero points haul from the young Spaniard he is now focusing on getting as many victories under his belt, as winning the title for the third year on the bounce is all but over.

Marquez experienced a ‘floating feeling’ whilst riding in the wet conditions at the English track, which was something he experienced in the dry at the start of the season. That feeling returned today, but he is not using it as an excuse as he was able to put down a good pace in the races, before he succumbed to the slippery surface.

“Today was a difficult day, as on the dry everything was fine. The feeling was not very good today and in the race I started to feel good and I tried to follow Valentino and in some parts I was faster, but I felt a floating feeling in the rear, which I had at the beginning of the season in dry conditions,” said Marquez, at the track.

“In the wet I had that feeling again. I tried to manage but in the end I lost the rear, and when I tried to save the crash I was already flying. We have lost the option of the championship but we will try and win many races from here until the end of the season.

“In dry conditions you are able to try and improve with different setups, but the last time I tried the bike in the wet we had big problems of floating feelings, but even with this I was able to be fast - so it is not an excuse.

“I will try to win but if that is not possible I will try and win second and third place. The championship looks interesting and it looks like Lorenzo is faster, but Valentino has unbelievable experience and he is constant so it will be interesting to see the battle. The championship is now too difficult [for me].”
