MotoGP Silverstone: Redding '50/50' over his future

British rider Scott Redding is still considering his MotoGP future for 2016 and is deciding whether to stay with his Marc VDS team or join Pramac Ducati, and is ‘50/50’ as to what to do.

He has until Sunday to make up his mind, but he wants to be in the mix for race wins, but this year he hasn’t been getting the results onboard his Honda RC213V. He does believe that on the Ducati he could be more competitive, but he is still stuggling with the decision.

“It is one of those things which is still 50-50 and this is my last weekend to make a decision, and I need have some quiet time and take a gamble. After Sunday I need to make a decision,” said Redding, speaking at the track.

“I struggle a bit and when it comes to making a decision - I then have a good weekend and I am like should I shouldn’t I, but that’s the thing, we have had two tracks where the bikes have been good and the rest of them we have struggled. I think if I make a good result this weekend it is going to make me want to stay more, but we will see.

“The VDS team have put so much together to make this happen for me it is just a shame that we couldn’t get the results, and I can’t take that gamble for another year and I want to fight for championships.

“Indy was the breaking point for me because Sachsenring was not that bad and that prolonged it for me and at Indy I thought I am in trouble and I need to sort out the situation to get the best out of it.

“Marquez went back to last years chassis, but I am still on the new one and struggling. If they said we would give you one chassis and you can try it and if it is better you can keep it, then I think OK they really want to help.

“In my opinion it doesn’t really feel that they want to have me and keep me - whereas Ducati really want to have me and I think they will give me the best of the best to make the best performance but I think that’s the difference.”

Redding also believes that if he does join the Pramac squad, (which will have backing from Ducati) then he can perform a lot better than he has on the Honda this year, and it’s possible that the 2016 the team will use the Ducati Desmosedici GP15 ridden by Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone in this year’s series.

Redding added: “I think it will be their bikes from this year that we will start with next year and that is a good reassurance, but Honda - they don’t know what next year’s bike is going to be like and they had a chassis that they tested in Misano and went half a second slower, but I think Ducati have brought the bike a long way.

“So far overall yes [I think I can be more competitive on the Ducati], with Hernandez and Petrucci they are good riders but I do believe I have more talent than them They have to really have to work for it and they are still beating me - so I cant be worse. I am not saying they are not good riders because they are in the World Championship, but I do believe I am a better rider than them.”
