Oulton BSB: Irwin quickest in first practice session

Be Wiser Ducati’s Glenn Irwin edged JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam from the top of the opening MCE British Superbike free practice timesheets at Oulton Park, and the Northern Irishman was the only rider to lap inside the 1’34’s this morning.

Onboard the Panigale, Irwin set a 1’34.936 with a handful of seconds remaining and pushed Haslam back down to P2. The Ducati man left his best lap until last and from out on nowhere went from a top ten time, to take the accolade of the fastest rider on lap 17.

Irwin was half a second off lap record pace, with Haslam going 1’35.068, and went one tenth slower than the Be Wiser backed bike. McAMS Yamaha’s James Ellison stopped with a technical problem at Brittens with ten minutes remaining, but he did manage to get underway once again.

Lap record holder, Anvil Hire TAG Racing’s Josh Brookes went P6 in FP1, after a 1’35.505 rotation. Youngster Jake Dixon, has former British Supersport champion, Glen Richards helping him this weekend in the RAF Reserves Kawasaki garage, and the Essex lad went seventh fastest, with Iddon, Hickman and McConnell the ten quickest riders. Bridewell, Linfoot, O’Halloran, Smrz and Guintoli were all inside the top 15 at the Cheshire track.
