Oulton BSB: Race-two winner Cooper made 'right tyre decision'

Buildbase BMW’s Richard Cooper bagged his debut race win in the MCE British Superbike class during the final outing at Oulton Park this afternoon, in very mixed weather conditions.

The S1000RR rider decided to go out on the drying Cheshire track on intermediate fronts and slick rear tyres, and after a really strong start he was able to push on ahead and was only challenged in the end by Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon.

Cooper has never won a BSB race, and was pleased that he was able to pay back his team for all their hard work, and was able to clinch a much needed podium credit for his Showdown ambitions. In the end he was able to hold off Iddon until the final lap, but Cooper made his move on the final corner on the last lap to take a tight victory this afternoon.

“We have had three podiums before now, but today was especially important for the fact it was the first win on the Buildbase BMW and for me I have strived for that for a long time. I feel really comfortable with this team and I enjoy riding for them and days like this when you give them something back is when it all counts,” speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“I love my bike and it does everything I want it to do and on the weekends when we are fighting for tenth position I know days like today will come, and BSB is tough at the best of times.”

“I feel we made the best decision with the tyres. Going on slick tyres in tricky conditions is something I always try to do early on in the weekend. I feel I am always one of the first person to run the risk of running the slick tyres in tricky conditions, so for days like this you know what the bike will do.

“I was quite surprised when Christian came by on intermediate’s but that is typical of Christian but to get the win on the last lap of the last corner is what you dream about, and we have done it today.

“I will go about my business as we always do at Brands Hatch as we will chip away and we will use what we learnt today and to give us confidence too.”
