Phillip Island WSBK: ‘I was on the limit the whole time’ - Camier

MV Agusta’s Leon Camier took a ‘massively unexpected’ fifth in today’s WorldSBK opening round at Phillip Island but spent the entire 22 laps right on the limit in order to keep the leaders in sight.

It is a huge result for the former BSB champion as he lost the whole of Friday practice to engine problems, didn’t have any time to evaluate a race tyre and is still down on top speed at a track which has never suited the Noale bike.

“That was massively unexpected to be honest. I made a good start but managed to lose a few positions into turn one and I thought the front group would break and I was too far back to make it work but I managed to keep picking them off and somehow managed to bridge the gap to the front,” said Camier, speaking at the track.

“When someone got to the front and put some good laps in, I lost a little bit but managed to get back to them. I was on the limit the whole time just to stay there. I didn’t have a lot more to give at the end.”
