Phillip Island WSBK: Laverty frustrated at lack of pace

Milwaukee Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty continues to be frustrated by the RSV-4 as he led the second WorldSBK race at Phillip Island, only to be shuffled back to tenth behind team-mate Lorenzo Savadori in the final analysis.

Laverty is struggling with the new bike in a lot of areas but has given Aprilia plenty of feedback about weight distribution playing a role in their troubles. The Monegasque hasn;’t been able to get the thing to turn as he would like in Australia but was at the sharp end during testing at Portimao.

“It was such a tough race. For the first few laps, I thought we had some pace and Alex was slow in a few areas so I thought I would pass and see what we could do. After a few laps, the bike wouldn’t go forward so we went backwards,” said Laverty, speaking at the track.

“It’s not chipping away, it’s big chunks we’re looking for. The bike is far away from the front guys but the important thing is Aprilia know that and they have some work to do. I was riding hard and we were able to hang in there for a few laps but we can’t lose like that. It was a 22-lap race and I finished 20 seconds behind. We have got our work to do.”
