Local government officials in Portugal’s Portimao area have confirmed they are in negotiations to bring MotoGP to the Algarve in 2020.
Hoping to cash in on the success of the country’s posterboy Miguel Oliviera, who will ride for the works Red Bull KTM team this season, Portimao mayor Isilda Gomes is looking to secure €1.5m to finance the event over three years from the authority coffers.
“Negotiations are under way,” she told local media, and it is hoped that the race weekend would bring in a huge number of spectators and tourists to the area.
How the riders would react to a race at the rollercoaster track is another matter. However, seeing Marc Marquez come over Jones’ Leap is something that will should be greatly anticipated.
